Typical of someone with a an axe to grind, Sagan attributes all crop
design phenomena to hoaxers because SOME have been shown to be
hoaxes. The self described cerealologists have been cataloging
certain characteristics that are contrary to the Hoax Hypothesis.
The convenience of Sagan's bully pulpit is that he is free from
facing rebuttals and can completely ignore evidence that refutes his
position. And if he does have to face it, it can always be dismissed
because the evidence was not collected/analyzed by "real" scientists.
Another tactic typical of Sagan and his minions is that he uses
extreme cases to characterize all those interested in anomolous
phenomena.
You would think that a "real" scientist would be interested in
collecting anomolous facts in hopes of gaining new insights.

I doubt that Sagan will go after Reichians since they aren't exactly
burning up the talk show circuit and who would want to pick on
something noone's heard of. I suspect all the "think yourself happy"
types are probably at more risk.

I've been wanting to pick that up. Is it available through Flatland?
