The Seven Hermetic Principles. These ancient teachings seem to me to be very
much in harmony with Orgonomic Functioning. Comments?
1. The Law of Mentalism: The first Hermetic principle is that of mentalism,
which states that the universe is mental, or Mind. Another way to put this
is that everything exists in the mind of the God or Goddess who "thinks" us
into existence.
2. The Law of Correspondence: The second Hermetic principle is the law of
correspondence. "As above, so below, as below, so above." The principle of
correspondence tells us that what is true on the macrocosm is also true on
the microcosm and vice versa. Therefore we can extrapolate knowledge and
wisdom from the known to the unknown. We can learn the great truths of the
cosmos by observing how they manifest in our own lives. On another level,
armoring in the human organism corresponds to armoring in societal and
institutional structures.
3. The Law of Vibration: The Hermetic principle of vibration states that
everything moves and vibrates with its own rate of vibration. Nothing is at
rest. Matter is not passive and inert, as it may appear to us on the
material level, but restless with rhythm and motion. It dances.
4. The Law of Polarity: Polarity is the key to power in the Hermetic system.
As The Kybalion puts it, everything is dual, all truths are half-truths,
everything contains its opposite, extremes meet, and every pair of opposites
can be reconciled. "Opposites are really only two extremes of the same thing
with many varying degrees between them." OR and DOR.
5. The Law of Rhythm: We know from physics and the Hermetic Laws that
everything is in constant change and constant movement and that reality is
composed of opposites. The law of rhythm gives us an important insight into
how these opposites move. Things move back and forth, up and down, in and
out. They ebb and flow. But they also turn in wheels and spirals. Rhythm is
the measured motion between extremes, i.e. pulsation.
6. The Law of Gender: The Hermetic principle of gender states that
everything has both masculine and feminine components. This law is an
important application of the law of polarity. The law of gender is really
about force and energy. In all things there is a receptive or feminine
energy (absorbtion) and a projective or masculine energy (reflection), which
the Chinese call yin and yang.
7. The Law of Cause and Effect: In its traditional form the law of cause and
effect states that nothing happens by chance, that for every effect there is
a cause, and that every cause is itself an effect of something else. Those
of us who study political and economic structure become more and more
familiar with this law as information is gathered.
These laws or principles are said to go back to the days of Hermes (Thoth)
the Egyptian God/King. They were known and taught around the world at
various times by the Witches, the American Indians, the Druids, the
Egyptians, the Rosicrucians etc. and form the basis for the pre-christian or
so called "pagan" religions and beliefs. These principles lived in the soil
where the roots of the Vitalists and the Alchemists grew.
