Dear OML users,
Privacy is a serious concern today. All this talking about conspiracy made me
feel like suggesting this:
How about exchanging PGP keys among us? This may not appear to have an immediate
use but sometimes we may want to send a really confidencial mail to some other
user.
For those who doesn't know about/have
PGP: http://web.mit.edu/network/pgp.html
The following will make no sense to PGP illiterates.
It would be too annoying to receive individually dozens (soon hundreds) of keys
from all subscribers. And each time a new user join the list we would have to
send him/her all keys again. This opens space for tampering.
I suggest a kind of centralization of this process. We would choose a central
host site (PORE seems to be the logical choice, what about Jogg?). There, a
single zip file would hold all user's keys. This zip file is signed
(authenticated) by the central (PORE?) host. So the only key needed to be
distributed to the list and to each new user is the one from the central host.
This minimizes tampering chances and save us lot of time and confusion.
The zip file could even be emailed or published on the list. But it's "central"
because we accept to trust a single signature/central authentication.
Wait your comments.
Love,
Alan Pogrebinschi
