This is very simple, but it works for me...
In a metal sink, I balance a 4 tine stainless steel dinner fork on a
cellulose sponge so the tines hang down inside a metal milk steaming cup
adjacent to the sponge. I use paper towel to cushion the near edge of
the cup and prevent direct contact with the fork. Adjusting it so the
tines are very close, but not touching, the far lip of the cup, I start
a thin stream of cold water from the tap through the tips of the middle
tines of the fork, right against the inside edge of the cup but directly
striking the water in the cup. I adjust the position of the fork and angle
of the cup so the full cup gently overflows through the paper towel and the
surface of the water at equilibrium is very close to the tips of the fork
tines. I find that very fine adjustments can greatly increase and
decrease the effects generated.
As with all such devices, it is important to make sure there are no
florescent lights or CRT's (tv's, computer monitors, etc.) active
in the vicinity.
