Recently Joel Carlinsky wrote:

<<I wish to make clear that the criticism that follows is not directed at
Reich
and his theories, but only at the actions of certain present-day Reichians
whom I regard as incompetent and irresponsible "Orgonomy Peddlers" of the
type Reich warned about. I specifically am not contesting the facts of
orgone biophysics, but the misguided application of those facts by one group
of proponents of Reich's work, specifically, Dr. James DeMeo and his
associates....

<<...I am convinced that Dr. DeMeo and his associates are doing a great deal
of
harm to the environment and to innocent members of the public as well as
hurting the long term prospects for serious investigation of Reich's
discoveries by ill-conceived cloudbusting operations conducted without proper
ecological knowledge or concern for the environment. Dr. DeMeo's obsessive
compulsion to convert unbelievers and his need to gather statistics has
resulted in devastation to ecosystems and the deaths of numerous people due
to storms, floods, and freezing weather.>>

I've been monitoring this conference for months, and I think it's about
time someone has posted a lucid, stimulating article that goes right to the
heart of any discussion on orgonomy!

Without personally attacking anybody, Joel Carlinsky makes some astute
observations on the work of someone who apparently has been able to generate
considerable financial and emotional support by a certain segment of the
community for his alleged continuation of Reich's work. Considering how high
the stakes may be --even if the mainstream scientific community cannot
understand or appreciate the work which Reich has done-- Carlinsky's comments
cannot be overlooked by anyone who is capable of maintaining a rational
interest in the scientific work pioneered by Dr. Wilhelm Reich.

Let us now hope that the serious students of Reich's work can engage in
a constructive dialogue on the important issues Carlinsky raises, rather than
continue along the line of being hero-worshipping admirers of Reich's work in
order to promote their own agendas.

(By the way, while I wholeheartedly support the right of individuals to
speak freely about subjects of interest to them, I think that using Reich to
promote anti-authoritarian conspiratorial theories, or to vent personal
attacks on established medical institutions, or to suggest a new theory of
AIDS is off the track in a conference supposedly devoted to orgonomy.)
