I guess we shouldn't be too surprised that scientists fifty years ago
treated Reich and his discoveries as crackpot and crazy. Dissenting
scientific views are still subjected to disdainful and disrespectful
criticism. For example Elaine Morgan's insistence that we evolved from
aquatic apes is ridiculed and vilified even though she has volumes of
supporting evidence. Cold Fusion is still regarded by most physicists as
absurd, but this to-good-to-be-true reality has been replicated thousands of
times. Many laboratories are now working on this developing science, but the
public and scientists in general believe that Cold Fusion has somehow been
dealt with, just like orgone. As is often pointed out, almost all major
scientific breakthroughs, and the persons championing them, are first
regarded as ridiculous by their contemporaries.
To hold these renegade views requires a strong ego and folks with strong
egos have a difficult time accepting other strong egos. That's a fact we
must begin to deal with. We can't afford to be trashing each other, no
matter how cleverly it's done. I want Jim, Jim, and Ken back on this mailing
list. We need them. Maybe they are open to criticism, as we all are, but
not the sophisticated name calling that passes for analysis which has become
such a serious drag on our group.
We need a psychological cloudbuster to gently reinvigorate the atmosphere at
OML. Any suggestions?
Ed
