Subject: Greetings, Emotional Plague Sufferers!

In his "Response" to Joel Carlinsky's stimulating assertions in this forum
that Dr. James DeMeo engages in irresponsible cloudbusting experiments
without adequate regard for the health and safety of other living beings, or
of the planet, Dr. DeMeo --in a masterful defense of his position that was
replete with not-so-subtle attacks on Carlinsky's' character and
credibility-- could not resist dismissing the ensuing dialogue in a similar
character assassination attempt. As Michael Clements, who felt rightfully
insulted, recently pointed out, Dr. DeMeo wrote off participators in the
dialogue thusly:
>Afterward, a few others on the OML began to make extended positive
>commentary about Carlinsky's assertions and charges, amplifying them
>irresponsibly, adding in other malicious opinions, and so forth. It was
>an awful spectacle, what Reich called an "emotional chain-reaction". Only
>then did I write this necessary rebuttal.
To which I now say:
Hello, there, fellow sufferers of the emotional plague!
You do know who are you, don't you? You're the ones who possess the
objectivity and independence of mind to view events as they are, not as some
self-aggrandizing, imperial investigators of the nature of Life, past and
present, would have you see them -- to wit, through *their* eyes only.
Hey, who are you, as a decidedly lesser being who must be obviously plagued
by a dysfunctional brain, a repressed sex life, and an anemic sperm count to
even dare to question the authoritative treatises of those whose
self-proclaimed expertise in a highly controversial, unaccepted science
automatically qualifies them to dismiss everything you think, say, or do as
either maliciously inspired, insubordinate, or irrelevant --unless, of
course, you assume the politically correct posture of worshipful allegiance
and blind acceptance in respect to any pronouncements or activities made by
the almighty wielder of the Great Cloudbuster?!
So what if a few innocent people get killed by a storm that exceeded your
expectations? Or if the habitats of a few more plant and animal species get
endangered because you don't know enough about the ecology of the planet to
appreciate the subtle interactions between eco-systems? Dont' worry. Hey,
it's all merely part of the test.
You poor, sick puppies! Don't you realize that you have no right to raise
questions about the integrity of the experimenters who mess around with your
living environment? Whoever heard of such audacity?
Fool! Did you not realize that the very act of asking questions
automatically disqualifies you from any serious consideration by the guru in
charge?
Ingrate! How dare you question his authority? Don't you understand that
he's doing this for your own good?
Lunatic! You must be mad, or severely deranged to challenge the (newly)
established order.
--Guards! Come quickly! Put this doubter away! We still have space in
Siberia, don't we?
--Dissension is irrational. Freedom is slavery. Free speech is an
intolerable conceit.
--Hurry, guards, these people are ill with an infectious disease. Isolate
them! Ignore them! Put them away! We can't afford their back talk.
We can't afford to have them poisoning the minds of the contributing
faithful, those blessed individuals who possess that untainted zeal for
perceiving conspiracies which don't exist, or for concocting convoluted,
obtuse, philosophical polemics attacking the long established prerogatives of
citizens in a democratic society to exercise their constitutional right of
free speech.
So what that our grand and glorious leader was crucified in his own day for
hypothesizing a whole new Weltanschauung that undermined the status quo of
every society that he lived in?
So what that his own ideas were viewed as so controversial that the
authorities in power invariably squashed him and his work like a pesky
mosquito who had no right to disturb them in their comfortable slumbers?
So what that we may now be doing to our critics what was done to our leader
--attempting to silence them by labeling their behavior and character as
aberrant?
We have the means; we have the power; we have the clever rationalization:
they are emotionally sick.
After all, we can control the weather! We can control the forces of nature
herself! Surely, that must make us the new authorities, the most potent of
the most high. As such, let us rid ourselves of these apostates in our
midst.
Let us excommunicate them from the Church of Orgonomy.
Let us brand them with the cruelest, most all-encompassing, most damning
label of all. We must cast them out into the vast pool of others like them,
those poor, ignorant slobs who also suffer from the emotional plague.
It's all quite clear, isn't it? Since what we know for certain that what we
do is, ipso facto, right, good, and true, it follows that all those who
oppose us must be incorrect, evil, and liars.
--Quick, guards, where is that emotional plague branding iron? No, you
idiot, not the one with the letter "A" -- that's been out-of-date for some
time now, despite Demi Moore. Get that one, over there. The one with the
"EP" design. Ah, here is it. Use this; it will work. This ought to silence
those heretics, once and for all.
